This first Italian Solar Challenge is organized with the aim of developing a World Championship including the World Solar Challenge (Australia), the American Solar Challenge, the European solar challenge (Belgium), the United Solar Challenge (Middle East)

The prototypes racing the Italian Solar Challenge are special vehicles with extreme aerodynamic performance supplied by a battery pack and photovoltaic cells  integrated in the bodywork.​
